Mobile Broadband in Europe [Dec. 9th, 2008|09:32 pm]
Anything about travelling welcome here!!

Does anyone know if there's a mobile broadband that's available to use around Europe (Western and Eastern)? If so where can you get it from?

Does UK's 3 mobile broadband work in other European countries?

Rio De Janeiro [Nov. 28th, 2008|01:26 pm]
Anything about travelling welcome here!!
I'm off to Rio from the 13th feb to the 1st March. Carnival Time!!!! however having booked flights and not accommodation I'm finding everything soooo expensive for the days of carnival. Some places are like X 10 of the usual price!

Has anyone ever been to Rio during carnival? Where did you stay?

Does anyone here live in Rio? Whats the best way to find fairly priced accommodation?

Thanks in advance for any help

Hi everyone,

If you have any hints on finding the ABSOLUTE CHEAPEST flights to Latin America, particularly Lima, Peru, from the US, please clue me in! I just need a one-way, and the date of departure is fairly flexible (sometime in June?) I know I can find something cheaper than 600 bucks, which is what keeps popping up on the sites I'm checking. Do I need to check with a travel agent? Also, my travel buddy and I no longer have student status, so we can't use student discount sites.

thanks for any help you might be able to give!!

Trans-Mongolian Railway [Dec. 19th, 2007|04:13 pm]
Anything about travelling welcome here!!

Last month I won a free trip on the Trans-Mongolian Railway (from St Petersburg to Beijing) with Intrepid. Has anyone done the Trans-Mongolian? If you, any tips on when to go, what to bring, etc? I'd love to hear from anyone who has done it, or has started researching to go themselves!

OK, so I'm on my gap year in South Africa atm, and am supposed to go to Australia at the begining of December to do Ranch Work. I was really hopng to work with horses out there but they have equine flu epidemic. Hopefully sorted by the begining of the new year. But will limit the jobs i can get. So, I want to do some travelling for a month before going to australa. I can't stay in South Africa coz my visa will run out. Any suggestions? Either here in Africa or I was thinking of maybe New Zealand? To keep me entertained for a month? What is worth seeing? I've already been to Kenya, but have never been to New Zealand, or anywhere round there ofr that matter.

So, anything is helpful.

crossing the border [Oct. 3rd, 2007|08:46 pm]
Anything about travelling welcome here!!

ok, i'm going to canada from the united states. i read i don't need a passport yet, but it's highly recommended. well i don't have one, and i can't get one. because i'm on parole. but i also read that if i bring my state ID and bitch certificate, that will suffice. but i will be a fugitive, and it might be hard getting back into the US, but i'll worry about that when it happens.

anyway, my question is this. will they do any sort of criminal background check at the border crossing? will they see my warrants in their computers? what will they do if they do? will they just tell me i can't enter canada, so i could just try again the next day? would they hold me in local jail for extradition? (by the way, my crime will be parole violation, and the original charge was "unlawful possession of hypodermic syringes," which wasn't illegal, especially since i worked for the fucking needle exchange. but i plead guilty, because i'm a pussy, and it was just easier that way. well, it's a long story. i skipped bail, and they could have found some reason to incarcerate me anyway, so i decided fuck the trial.) anyway, as long as i look like an upstanding citizen, like i'm not just going up to canada to buy pot or something, they'll just wave me through, right?

when i was a kid, i went to toronto with my family, and all they asked was, "do you all have valid IDs?" and we rushed to dig them out, and the border patrol people were like, "no, i don't need to see them, just confirm that you have them." so we were like, "yeah..." and they waved us right through.

that was then. this is now. i understand that. i'm surely not going to bring anything that anyone could even guess might be illegal. and i won't bring any fruits and vegetables. i guess i could even leave my knife behind, but i hope that's not necessary. anyway, if i just say i'm going on vacation, i'm from seattle, i've always wanted to see vancouver, and i have lots of money to spend, they'll be cool with me right?

anyone who's traveled from america to canada lately, please reply to tell me your exact experience in crossing the border so i know how safe/easy it is. maybe i'll decide against it based on your replies. but don't try to convince me not to violate parole. it's a little late for that. just tell me your experience and let me base my decision on that. thanks.
